I am looking for a recipe for an English dish to make and share at a Cub Scout meeting. We are doing a heritage theme, and I have ansetors from Englad but don't have any idea what to make. I would like it to be some authentic and different than something we might have in America. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

Here's a recipe for Toad in the Hole, which is about as authentic as you can get.

Serve with (Sorta) Mushy Peas:

INGREDIENTS

1 (10 ounce) package frozen green peas
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

DIRECTIONS

Bring a shallow pot of lightly salted water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add frozen peas, and cook for 3 minutes, or until tender.

Drain peas, and transfer to a blender or large food processor. Add cream, butter, salt and pepper to peas, and process until blended, but still thick with small pieces of peas. Adjust seasonings to taste, and serve immediately.

(The reason that they're "sorta" mushy peas is because you're not using dried peas soaked in water and bicarb of soda. But these taste pretty close.)

And for dessert, an English triffle (it's a lot easier than it looks):

INGREDIENTS

2 (8 or 9 inch) white cake layers, baked and cooled
2 pints fresh strawberries
1/4 cup white sugar
1 pint fresh blueberries
2 bananas
1/4 cup orange juice
1 (3.5 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
2 cups milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup blanched slivered almonds
12 maraschino cherries

DIRECTIONS

Slice strawberries and sprinkle them with sugar. Cut the bananas into slices and toss with orange juice. Combine pudding mix with milk and mix until smooth. Cut the cake into 1 inch cubes.

Use half of the cake cubes to line the bottom of a large glass bowl. Layer half of the strawberries followed by half of the blueberries, and then half of the bananas. Spread half of the pudding over the fruit. Repeat layers in the same order.

In a medium bowl, whip the cream to stiff peaks and spread over top of trifle. Garnish with maraschino cherries and slivered almonds.

Good luck with your Cub Scout event!

The British are more famed for their desserts than main courses.
Look for online recipies for:
treacle tart
jam roly-poly
spotted dick (I'm serious!!)
upside down pudding
Queen of puddings
bread and butter pudding

(now you're making my mouth water!!)
