They're not trying to convince you of a religion, they're trying to sell it. It's a membership thing.

Think about it.

If they only wanted to give you the news that Jesus died for your sins, they'd give you the news, wish you well, and walk away. They persist because they want you to follow up and join their particular church.

If they weren't worried about membership, wouldn't they be happy to see you attending any one of the 68,000 different Protestant and Catholic denominations? After all, this is one belief common to all of them!

It's kind of difficult to ignore those people who try to "force" their religion upon you isn't it. I'm not exactly sure the words to say to someone like that. Maybe you could tell them that you all ready have a good idea of what you believe in but that you also value their opinion of the matter and that you can never be completely sure that what you believe is right. After all, who are we to determine what is right and wrong in this world...

Politely say you respect their religion and ask that they respect your choices. Then stop there. If they pursue the subject ,say I am sorry I do not care to discuss religion and do not discuss it any further.

Just simply tell them that their beliefs are not compatible with yours. Make sure you say "with all due respect." That tells them that you aren't interested in the nicest way possible. They won't sense animosity and will know that you are well-intended.

Tell the that you do not believe. They are likely to ask you why don't you believe? When they ask you that question, then tell them the truth. Telling the truth when asked for it is not rude.

Romans 10:13-15...... For “everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved.” However, how will they call on him in whom they have not put faith? How, in turn, will they put faith in him of whom they have not heard? How, in turn, will they hear without someone to preach? How, in turn, will they preach unless they have been sent forth? Just as it is written: “How comely are the feet of those who declare good news of good things!”
