Looks like I'm going back to jail after screwing up on parole. I think I heard something about some people getting boot camp instead of jail. I'm 21 and wondering is this an option in New York - anything would be better than being back in a cell again. Would prefer to be out in the air and at least getting fit.

Anybody know what they're like and if you can suggest it to the judge if the worse happens or do they have to suggest it?

No I know I can't join the army - that would be ideal for me. What I was wondering about was something I saw for people who do boot camp type training and I think it's normally for a shorter time than you would normally get.

If you are currently on probation or parole, the military will not accept you.

Additionally, "boot camp" is an option of the court PRIOR to sentencing and entrance into prison.

Because you've violation the terms of probation/parole...most likely, upon recommendation of probation/parole, you will re-enter the penal system.

Best wishes!

I wish I could answer your question better. There was a progam on tv last year called "Brat Camp".

The second website shown below has a link for parents who want to apply to send their teen to Brat Camp. Even though you are 21, you might contact the show's producers and see if they know of any program for someone a bit older.

In my experience, people in all walks of life (doctors, lawyers, bankers) know shockingly little about their own profession. So, don't expect the judge to know anything about these programs. Do your own homework. If you can suggest an alternative, he might be impressed by your intelligence and initiative!

There are different kinds of 'boot camp', not just the military variety. Tell the judge just what you said here, "...anything would be better than being back in a cell again." Maybe he/she will listen to you and help you out here.

It sounds like you're ready to turn your live around. Good luck.

In prison they do have what they call BOOT CAMP.you serve 6 months of your jail time instead of your full term. I don't know if you can suggest it, though. ASK you never know.
