My dog has been having trouble standing up. We took her (2 year old, female beagle) to the vet and they said that she might have a torn or pulled muscle or something. She shakes sometimes and will not get up and has trouble walking. Do you have any suggestions.

You need to have an x-ray taken, Beagles are prone to blown discs.

Your vet should start with a physical exam, checking along the spine, hips etc. They should also do radiographs (xrays) to rule out possible bone-related issues. Next they should do some blood work up and also a neurological exam. She should stay at least overnight at a vet hospital on "seizure watch" to rule that out as well.
I would head for a more thorough vet rather than one that assumes it's a pulled muscle. If you wait, assuming that it is just that, the condition could get worse.

well why didn't they do anything the 1st time at the vet is my question. the only thing you can do is give it time to heal. but it should be wrapped up to take the pressure and weight off of it so it can heal properly. follow up with the vet about this if it gets worse. did they give you all any meds for the dog...if not u need to take it to a different vet that will follow thru with procedures. thats the best bet. but make sure that she is not putting a lot of weight on it so i can heal and won't tear anymore. wrap it up.

Beagles are very prone to siezures if your doctor has not checked for that yet then you should ask him to or switch doctors the shaking sounds like a sign of that and also not being able to walk you should definatly have it checked just to rule it out if it is seizures there very treatable they dont go away but you can manage them good luck

I would take her back to the vet and have some x-rays and a better physical done on her and demand some answers instead of what it "might" be. My daughter's dog, although older was having that problem and she had to have surgery to have her ovaries removed, they were massive and without the surgery she could've died. I don't mean to alarm you but just take her back to the vet and make sure whenever you take your pet in to ask and get answers, not just maybes.

SOUNDS LIKE NERVE DAMAGE. Take your dog to a vet that will treat your dogs problem not one that says it might be a torn muscle or something because your dog is in obvious pain.

Absolutely I agree with those who say you need a second opinion. Your vet doesn't sound like he/she really explored any possible causes.

Could very likely be a neurological problem -- seizures, stroke, brain damage, etc. A concerned and involved vet probably would've done some tests to check for these possibilities.

If you are not comfortable with the opinion your vet gave you, get a second opinion. Did this happen all of a sudden or gradually. If it was all of a sudden, it is an injury of some sort. If it happened gradually, it could be some other medical condition.

on the least they get the suggestion to call a vet. regularly a telephone call to a vet is loose, and that they are able to describe the indicators to the vet's place of work and discover out in the event that they might desire to return in or no longer. some human beings only turn to the internet quite of a individual. yet whilst yahoo have been to chop up it, then human beings could could submit inthe good place, and there is not any assure of that.

If your vet has suggested something that isn't really sitting quite right with you, I would suggest seeking out another vet for a different opinion.
