yes, even in combat arms, it depends on the degree of the arch of the foot, however I was under the minimum degree and got a letter from my track coach (I did letter in track with flat feet). I then received a waiver for my condition.
And the date my friend was 1982 before Iraq. so it should not be a problem. Word of warning your feet will burn a bit more than usual on the twenty miler, if your tough it should not be a problem.

Yes, you can these days. I think that was just a good way of people getting out of the draft. People spend much less time marching these days. They'll find a job for you driving a poorly armoured vehicle through the desert.
