I think the best gift I could get, would be something pretty, but simple. Like a necklace, with a thin chain and a pink heart.
But there arent many girls would would turn down flowers :D
If you cant think of something that would be very personal to her (like, if she's really into a band, a particular cd..) then I would just suggest going the traditional route. Because as much as some girls say they want something non-traditional, flowers, candy and a card really get to a girl!!

Sometimes the best gift to give to someone is your heart. Take her to a place where you 2 can be alone and give her all your heart. Tell her all the things you love about her. Cook dinner for her make her feel special, make her feel like she is the luckiest girl in the world for having you for her bf. Give her your time and as much as your time as she wants. Thats what the best gift for valenties is. Your time spent with her. Showing her how much you care. Telling her how much you care. Proving to her you care.
** and a little valentines day card with her favorite chocolates wont hurt either...
Best of wishes, kesha

I'll tell what not to get her. Don't buy her jewerly, don't ask her best friend to help you pick it out. Depending on the age if under 25 card/candy over 26 flowers send to her work with a balloon that said Happy Valentine.

It could be as simple as a home made card (which is pretty cute and she will totally most likely love it) or you can get her roses, or plan a romantic surprise and at the end of the date give her a peice of jewelry or something. Trust me, I'm a girl, and I know that if my boyfriend gave me one of these things it would totally be the best thing ever.

Well I personally have not yet received the typical flowers/box of chocolates and I think that should be done at least once, so maybe just be simple.

Flowers or chocolate are a definate, plus we all love jewelry but if you can't afford it you should tell her you wished you could have gotten her something better.
