do not do plain WHITE...I know white makes the room(s) look bigger, but it also is very bland and won't put much excitement into prospective buyers. And you must understand that buying is base largely on emotions. So you gotta illicit the emotions inside of ppl...with that said you shouldn't use any extreme/bright colors either as you will eliminate many buyers who do not like that particular color...SO my answer is either an off white, or these days I see alot of brownish eggshell or light chocolate color. Basically, keep it neutral so you don't offend too many buyers, but give it some character to illicit some positive emotion towards buying.
P.S. my wife and I experiment with alot of paint colors and I find that what is good for selling a house is to keep the majority of the house a neutral color (mine is eggshell) but to give it a little splash of color you can accent things with colors you like...e.g. inside of arches, windows, framings, stripe of color paint running at the top of the walls, etc.

You don't want any odd colors if you are painting to sell the house, but plain white is so boring. I used to have all white....yuk Now I have color. My last house had yellows, greens, pink, etc. I had white woodwork. Looked great. Must have...sold in less than an hour. The realtor didn't even leave or put a sign up!
I would say to paint cheery colors. I also sold the last two houses in Nov/Dec. I had the house decorated for Christmas. I think that helped too.
Just make sure to declutter the house. "that is what makes it look big". Good Luck!!!!!
My house now has a lot of yellow and looks great!!!!!

I watch Designed to Sell on HGTV and they always paint the rooms in neutral light beige and a darker mushroom beige color usually with a white or cream color trim. It looks very fresh and clean and appeals to most. They usually use brown in the fabric with a splash of red or green for interest. Also if walls are flawed they say it is good to use some type of faux finish in a flat or low sheen to help hide imperfections. Also they say not to paint all the rooms one single color . Try using two different tones in the same color family one color for the living area and another for the dining area or kitchen this adds drama and interest .

Keep the color palette neutral. Remember, buyers will be looking for the right place for their furnishings, pictures, accessories. If there is a lot of color going on, your prospective buyers will be kept to a minimum, at best. Beige is beautiful and so easy to accessorize. There are many shades of Beige, so get creative and use a different shade in each room. Try combining two or three different shades on a feature wall to create interest. Use a sponging or ragging technique to create beautiful faux finishes that look like you spent a lot of money to have a professional painter do it. These techniques are extremely simple to do, and require no special tools. Check with your local paint supply store if you are unsure of how to do a faux finish. They will show you how it's done at no cost to you.
Have Fun!

Neutral colors are best. Not white though, because it looks dingy so fast. An off white, eggshell etc. or light tans. Light greens are also considered neutral but too many people don't care for green so must be careful there. My best suggestion would be to paint all the walls light tan or eggshell. Or as a sellling point make it a part of the deal that you will prepaint in any color the buyer chooses. That has worked for us when sellling our houses too.

you know my place when I bought it was a beautiful pale yellow/cream when I found the can in the garage I found out it was a bone white. They painted all the trim in a gloss white.
Now given these are not the colors I would paint my house while living in it BUT it made for a very CLEAN appearance with out looking stark or blinding.

I wouldn't suggest white it makes a house look too much like an apartment with no personality. If your house tends to be dark I would suggest a light yellow to brighten it up. You can get some great ideas by watching HGTV, they have one program that is called sell my house.

Some other color. White's too stark, cream's too wimpy by itself, and gray can look too drab at certain times of the day. Light taupe is a favorite in our part of the country. It looks great with everything & doesn't offend anybody.

I've always heard that the color yellow makes people want to buy something. Maybe try and very pale shade of yellow. Nothing too bright or sunny though.

Beige... It is comfy, and nuetral and everyone I know loves it.. It just feels so warm and it feels home like. I would go with a lighter beige though, nothing too dark.
