Biotic factors are living or once-living parts of the environment that affect the organism in question.
For example: What biotic factors affect squirrels?
1. Squirrels eat nuts and other seeds from trees, bushes, and other plants.
2. Squirrels use plant material to build their nests and position their nests up in trees which give them shelter from weather and predators.
3. Predators hunt squirrels and parasites use squirrels for habitat and for food.
4. Squirrels help disperse seeds when they bury seeds and fail to find them all -- essentially planting the seeds.
5. Squirrels compete with members of their own species and members of other species for food, living space, etc.
6. ... plenty more biotic factors ... just think of how squirrels interact with other living things in the environment
