I was wondering if I joined the Coast Gaurd how much chance there is that I could pick where I was stationed, I heard somwhere that they are flexible like that. Its not like I want to be stationed in Miami or somwhere most others do, its Alaska. Any recruiters reading this?

I can't speak for the U.S.C.G. but in the other branches of the military you can select ANY duty station right up to the point you sign on the dotted line. After that, you go where they tell you to go (in other words -- the recruiter will tell you anything to get you to sign).

i'm not a recruiter, but both of my parents were in the navy, and I currently have an uncle in the coast guard and let me tell you, they'll send you where they need you, and if you are lucky you get to go where you want. My mom and dad wanted to go to Japan, and they were sent to Iceland, so I was born in Iceland. My uncle wanted to be stationed in portland, Maine, and got stationed in portland,Oregon!

ul;timately it is based on the needs of the military. they have to have anbeed for you where ever you want to go, adn if the need is greater someplace else, then that's where you go.

I know people that have gotten thier first pick every single time, and I also know people that have never gotten anything vaguely resembling their first pick.
