Prank Calling is not illegal in anyway as long as you dont prank call emergency services like 911.

If you look in the front of the phone book, it says the penalties for Obscene or harasing calls include imprisonment and/or fine. As far as how long of jail time or how big of fine. It really just depends on the nature of the call and who you are calling.

Ps. You can block the caller ID from the person you called, but not from the phone company. All calls can be traced.

If you repeatedly call the number the person you are bothering can tell the police they are being harassed and can get your number captured by just dialing *57. The number the call came from will be reported to their phone company who will turn that trace over to the police. The police will help decide whether they consider those calls to be "harassing, threatening, or terroristic". At that point you are going to have to dig yourself out of some seriously-deep legal doodoo.

Depends on what the prank is.

You can get arrested for certain prank calls, such as bomb scares and fake calls to 911.
