1) The severity of the consequences depend on what state it occurred in.

2) Your friend could face time in a juvenile detention center.

3) So long as you didn't help execute the theft and didn't help your friend hide their crime after it was done, you are not an accomplice. There are few crimes where it is a crime for not reporting (those are usually child abuse crimes).

4) If the police did come to you, immediately ask for your parents AND a lawyer. Don't tell them anything without asking for both parents AND a lawyer. Then, with your lawyer, you will tell them everything you know. Otherwise you are obstructing justice and if you say you don't know anything (if under oath) you are committing perjury.

My advice, don't worry about anything unless the police come to you asking questions. It is very unlikely that anything will happen. If your friend did not get caught while leaving the store, truthfully, they probably will get away with it . . . this time.

Yes, your friend can in fact in get in some trouble. Did she get caught leaving the mall with the items? More than $300 dollars worth is a felony. When you discuss the problem with the authorites, you can tell them you told her to stop, however they might still say you are an accomplise for that you did not report the crime. If caught, depending on the judge, she may have to do some probabtion, community service, pay for the items and return them or go to Juvi. As for you, because you did not do it, you might get something lighter, or nothing at all, depending if she admits that it was her and not you. Most likely, you will not get in trouble especially if she is the one with the merchandice.

Did you guys get caught leaving? If not, it's highly unlikely that she will get in trouble now, it would have to be right when you left. Unless she had broke in and stole the items and the store reported them. If it was during business hours, it's unlikely that they will be looking for anyone. They would have done it then,

I'd keep my distance before she brings you down with her hun.
Take care, and hope this helps.
