My boyfriend/fiances feet stink so bad. His shoes are gross, which then makes his socks smell so bad, its like rank. I can't deal with it.. they get like sticky. What am I to do? Will new sneakers and socks and spray help this or is this something else?

There are two simple and straight forward reasons for having smelly feet one is the kind of shoe you wear and the other is the sweating of your feet. Sweating is an important process which helps to maintain our body temperature. It helps to remove waste products from our body, but sometime these smells become unbearable. Some individuals perspire more than the required amount to cool the body. This is known as Hyperhidrosis. Every foot has more than 250,000 sweat glands, so you can imagine why your foot smells so bad. The main reason for this kind of smell is because of the bacteria. As the bacteria feeds on the sweat it excretes waste in the form of malodorous odor. You can come across different feet smell due to the presence of various bacterial species. Some of the common smells are cheesy and trainer smell.

Maintain a good hygiene by bathing your feet daily with lukewarm water for the removal of bacteria;

• To avoid such kind of smell wash your feet with anti-bacterial soap;

• Wear clean and dry socks and change them daily;

• Always wear cotton socks which absorbs the sweat more generously;

• Do not wear the same shoe everyday. Give your shoe at least a 24-hour breather to remove that smell;

• To replace the odor you can place in your shoe odor-eater-type of shoe inserts;

• Apply antiperspirant on your feet.

Tell him to soak his feet in 1 part vinegar and 9 parts water for 15 minutes a day and this should help with them smell. If his shoes stink there is not much you can do try using febreeze or just getting new ones LOL. But the vinegar thing does work.

New sneakers and socks first.

If he's pretty open-minded, I strongly suggest getting some good quality peppermint essential oil and rubbing it on his feet daily. The peppermint will certainly smell better, and it has a cooling effect which will help with the sweating. Plus, it's all natural, so it won't be hard on his body/skin.

Good luck!!

ps - my 9-yr-old nephew is the SAME WAY - so is his dad. We just call them SWAMP FOOT. My poor sis-in-law...they live in a small cabin!!

If you buy new shoes, use odor-eaters inserts in them, and have him use foot powder after he gets out of the shower before he puts his socks on. Also, place a bounce sheet in them nightly to help absorb odors (newspaper works well too). Also, taking a daily dose of Zinc will help. I am unsure how exactly it works but it does. May take a little time (not too long) to take effect but it will truly help.
