I believe that the Qur'an is being misinterpreted by some people.

But I don't think that it's taking a negative toll on Islam. I also don't think that events such as 9-11 are taking a toll on Islam. Just look at the demographics. Islam is the fastest growing religion, conversion numbers to Islam are at an all time high and it doesn't seem that it's going to go the other way anytime soon. If you ask me, I don't think that Islam is showing any signs of being negatively effected by false, anti-Islamic propaganda (like the two websites the first answerer offered). The numbers are up, most people don't have a false view of the relgion and that's not gonna change.

I hope that answers your question.

Islam can't be a victim of misinterpretation

People are the victims of misinterpretation of Islam, when they fail to find for themselves the true nature of Islam

God bless

I think that can be said of any faith to be honest.

It is up to the people of the faith to spread their word through education, interaction, and understanding. That is the only way any religion will be understood. And even then, most of the "word" in any religion is fair game for interpretation anyway.

And I am sure many people of the Islam faith also misinterpret "western" culture and ideals (speaking of middle eastern islamic people).

Babel is still here.

I believe it is more like mis-representation from both its extremist followers who do not set a good example and the western media who insist on only highlighting the negative actions of the extremists along with the majority of people who just believe and allow themselves to be brainwashed by the media and allow their ignorance of such a religion make them jump to conclusions about it.

I think islam has been misinterpreted big time.

Can you believe that people actually think it is a religion of peace?

Muslims themselves say the western media lies about islam and the western media is the one responsible for helping to associate the phrase "religion of peace" with islam. Go figure!

What is "misinterpretation"? Is it an interpretation inconsistent with your interpretation?

Almost all armed conflict worldwide is Islamic...are those Jihadists "misinterpreting" jihad ayas? Ok...how so...how can we know what a "true interpretation" is?

Not me. Actions speak louder than words. Take a look at life in any muslim country. They are intolerant of other religions and beliefs. They have little respect for life and they treat women badly. Its pretty clear to me.
