My wall at home is not white. Would that matter if I did get a projector. Any recomendations for either one?

Unless you have a white wall or projection screen, I would not recommend a projector. Your colors will be inaccurate, if it is not displayed on a white or gray background. Also, you need to mount your projector unless you want people to walk through the light path. Also, you need to make sure you have full control of your ambient light. If you cannot block all natural light, you will have a difficult time to watch a movie in the day time. Don't be deceived by the cheap costs...it will bite you back with expensive lamps ($300-$600), expensive repairs, complicated installation and washed out image.

With LCD TV, you don't have to worry about ambient light, screen color, mounting or expensive replacement lamps. Only disadvantage with these TV's is that you have to stick to 60" or less. If you go any larger, you either spend a fortune or they don't exist. With a projector, you can get a 10 foot image at a low cost.

Plasma or LCD TV's are the way to go!

The wall would not matter for the projector if you get a projector screen to go over the wall (they can be from reasonably priced to expensive). If you want to not spend much, then you could just get a white sheet to put over the wall. I would go with a white background if you get a projector.

If you are getting a LCD tv (I will assume a flat panel and not a projection LCD), would it be of comparable size? The benefit of a projection is that it displays a large picture for much less than a comparable tv (cheaper than both flat panel and projection tv). The picture would not be as clear with w projector (unless you buy an HD one $$$).

If money is a concern and this would be mainly for movies, I would go with the projector.

A projector, especially a DLP-type capable of showing Hi-Def videos is a great choice IF you are going for the Big Screen feel in your home.
HOWEVER, projectors have a shorter lifespan than a regular console monitor, with bulbs lasting around 3,000 hours. The bulbs are expensive to replace, too.
Also, if your wall is not white, then that will also have a bad effect on the picture. If you want to do the projection route, at least hang a white sheet for a screen, or paint the wall.
LCD TV's are getting better and less expensive, so that's something to consider.
Still, if you really want that "movie" experience, Hi-Def DLP projector is the way to go.

Go with the LCD screen. A Projector would be nice, but you really need a blank canvas, and the quality won't be as good anyway

Don't mess with the projector, just get an LCD TV.

i will attempt make this an user-friendly answer. I have a hi def sony projector fastened on my ceiling. on account that its hi def, it has hdmi, element, and usual yellow video inputs. I have my 360 hooked as a lot as mine with hdmi and its magnificent at eighty inches. in the journey that your room is gigantic adequate you ought to actual smash out with like a 100 and twenty inch demonstrate screen. it truly is double what you'll get with an liquid crystal demonstrate/plasma. So the following is the way it extremely works. You mount it on the ceiling, and then run a lengthy hdmi cable and a element cable in case you opt on it. deliver that to the again of your reciever, and hook up your electronics by skill of your reciever. once you've a stunning good reciever, you gained't lose any video high quality. once you've drop ceilings it will be a lot less stressful to run the wires. If not, then paint them a similar colour because the ceiling and run them up there. because you opt on to hook up each thing to a reciever, you is actual not aggravating about what sounds better effective, because you'd be utilising encompass sound. once you've it connected, undertaking it on the wall and decide what length demonstrate screen you opt on before you purchase the demonstrate screen. The projector is definetly user-friendly techniques to flow for residing house theatre, yet the following is the con. The room must be really darkish. i'm hoping this grow to be user-friendly adequate, and flow with blue ray in case you may.
