I've been in the Army, National Guard, since May26, 2006, but took a three month leave from September until December. Do you think I'd be able to get out? I went to Basic but not to AIT. And I just contracted in ROTC thinking that it would better my future, but I am utterly and completely miserable. Borderline depressed. I've barely begun. The miltary has barely paid me anything, I've only been to one drill, and Basic Training. Rotc hasn't even paid me for this month. What can I do???? PLEASE HELP.

if I recall correctly, ROTC only pays after you contract in the second or third year.

in the Reserves or Guard, you get paid for the days you train or are activated.

if you are in it for the money, no wonder you are depressed.

Why in the world did you join in the first place? If it was for the extra income, then you're in it for the wrong reason! If your recruiter promised you an enlistment bonus, you will not receive a dime until you complete AIT and sign in at your unit. My hubby is prior Army and now in NT - he doesn't get paid unless he attends a drill, so contact your 1st Sarg. and ask the hard questions.

I wish you well.

If you truly feel that this is not for you try speaking with a Military chaplin/clergyman and ask them for advice. Now after doing that, go to a Military doctor and tell them that you are overly stressed by you inability to conform to the Military life. Ask them for assistance in seperating yourself from the military.
