AVIONICS: All the electronic and electro-mechanical systems and subsystems (hardware and software) installed in an aircraft or attached to it. Avionics systems interact with the crew or other aircraft systems in these functional areas: communications, navigation, weapons delivery, identification, instrumentation, electronic warfare, reconnaissance, flight control, engine control, power distribution, and support equipment.

Given that it's electronic equipment means the guy doesn't HAVE to know about Ohm's Law, or Faraday's Law, or Maxwell's Equations, or any of the other stuff. He's a techie, simply plugging in spare parts when they break down.

If he'd been doing the same job back in the 50's and 60's, THEN he'd have to be up to snuff on how things work because he'd actually have to troubleshoot the board and fix it on the spot (or at least at his bench).

And note that avioincs includes software ... there's a lot of software guys out there that understand nothing about electricity!

Seems to me that something as basic would be at the beginning of his electronics study, if not before!
Of course there are many who wish to look good to other by overstating their capabilities/abilities/position.
Maybe he's the one who removed the stops from the wheels!

Well, he could just install the avionics and not do the wiring.
