Your common sense may be different than my version of common sense. That's why we need to teach kids the basics in junior high and high school and hope for the best.
My version of common sense that a kid needs to learn in school includes these:
1. How to change a tire on their car.
2. How to balance their checkbook and why its important.
3. What is a credit rating and why it is important.
4. How to register to vote, and having it available to those that are 18 years old already.
5. Why donating blood is important and offering a chance to do so at the school.
6. The value of working for a charity and seeing how people working together can accomplish so much.

When I was in middle school we had a class called "life skills" I think that was the closest thing to a common sense class, but they did away with it after the first year. *shrugs* I guess it's not a priority since it's not on the state test and it wouldn't help the school get funding.

Simply because common sense cant be taught. You are born with it. You learn it as you learn about life. If there was a class that taught everyone to be the same and think and act the same way life would be boring.
