Basically what most of you are saying is that an ALL-KNOWING 'being' created a place of endless torture, then he created creatures to torture. Isnt that a bit saddistic?

Christians stole "Hel" from the Norse and turned it into a pit of fiery torment in order to scare people into believing in their God.

"Hell" was created by an artist who rendered his art work "Dante's Inferno." He took mystic beliefs from Roman/Greek mythology and said there was a burning hell. People conceived of his idea and perpetrated it into our cultures. The Bible does not teach about a burning hell. Why would God's archenemy be allowed to have his own personal domain? Satan will very soon be destroyed and right now he is confined to the earth. Look at the "woes" we are all experiencing to prove my point.

Zoroaster, aka Zarathustra, founder of Zoroastrianism. His religion was popular in Babylon in about the sixth centurty B.C. The Hebrews got the idea from them during the Captivity, and brought it back to Israel. Until then, there was no hell in Hebrew mythology. The dead all went to "Sheol" (the pit) whether they were good or bad. The ghosts weren't punished or rewarded.
Interestingly, "Hel" is the name of the Teutonic underworld and the Goddess that ruled it. That is where Hell got it's name.

The fires of hell are stoked with the dollars demanded by the false profits and T.V. evangelists. Of course they skim a good bit off the top before paying the furnace bill.
Of course they also sacrifice a few virgins along the way for good measure.

God created hell for fallen angels and for Satan. Not for us.
It's our choice to accept salvation or not. We messed up. We deserve to be punished. The only way out is through the guy that took our punishment: Jesus.
No matter how much people try to gain a profit from it, salvation remains a gift from God, and a choice. You can't earn it, because we all have sinned, and a perfect God can't be around sin, so we need someone to take that punishment. Again, his name is Jesus.
Hell is a place where there is no presence of God; in other words:
-No peace
-No rest
-Lots of pain
-No mercy
-No second chance
-No light
-No freedom

there is a site where ancient babylon stood and it sits on a fault line
creating lava eruptions from cracks in the earth
there is a cave also that smells of sulpher and no one would go in there because they believed you would not come out .... and many didnt
it is believed that this created the idea of hell
also due to the fault line the weather is highly affected and it is said to have created many thunder storms which is believed to have been Gods wrath

It was a government contract gone bad.
Seriously, on what basis do we believe Hell exists? The only verses we have can be interpreted any number of ways, and the only verses that EXPLICITLY speak of the place are either parables or visions.
Real places were always spoken of in frank, clear terms.

God, hypothetically. I can't place trust in a being that would claim to be Just and Merciful, yet just because you don't believe, you're going to be tormented for eternity. It's a disgusting belief, imo.

The Christian's did.
Jewish ppl don't believe in hell and I don't think the Muslims do either.
Christianity came from Judaism yet they'll tell Jewish ppl that the must accept Jesus or they'll go to hell.
It's freakin' hilarious !

Hell, as in eternal suffering place does not exist in the bible.
Let me rephrase this, hell is the common burial of all people who are dead. When a person goes to hell he is already dead, and dead things do not feel pain.
Eternal hell is more of a simbolic figure of speech than literal. It means to be killed and forgotten forever by everyone, not to be concious and burn and be tormented physically forever.
