They like their lifestyles. Are you ready to turn off your TV and computer for good and if you have to go less than 5 miles, walk ??

That's nothing but wishful thinking on a grand scale. The atmosphere has no problem accumulating those ozone depleting CO.2 gases. However, it's not the public that's responsible for those gas discharges into the atmosphere, it is big business. For example: I worked for refrigeration company that serviced the really big freezer units, the kind that you will find in factories all across this country. Our truck was equipped with a tank that held 33,000 pounds of that CO2. gas per charge. It took several trips just to recharge one industrial refrigeration system that obviously had a Freon capability of 1,000,000 pounds or so. These giant evaporators are constantly developing leaks and since they are too expensive to repair which sometimes requires replacing the whole evaporators assembly, We truck out there and recharge the system every time there's a problem. I don't know how exactly how many pounds of freon are released into the atmosphere of a yearly basis. however the number has to be in the tens of millions. We now have companies producing so many toxic chemicals that I couldn't begin to name half of them. Now these chemicals are so potent that those water treatment plants can no longer screen the toxic elements out.

Yes, as individuals we can make changes to our lifestyle which will help the environment. However, when you start to look at the infrastructure of our lives today it is pretty obvious that the changes needed go beyond what the individual can achieve. Our houses need redesigning, other methods of transport (integrated) need to be provided, shops need to be where people live, as does business, no more lengthy commuting etc. These kind of changes have to come from Government and Government is strictly transitory, here for a few years grabbing as much cash as possible and then on to the board of an environment damaging company!

Quite simply people don't care why recycle when they can put all there rubbish in one bin and the binmen take it no questions asked, However if you had 3 different bins and had to pay to get your general refuse bin emptied but the other 2 recycling bins were free this would stop this don't care less attitude. This subject of environment is too big for yahoo questions, I will now make a group on yahoo groups dedicated to this subject for anyone who's interested http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/thisisthefuture

Because people are selfish. No one wants to give up their up their `ozone` destroying life-style. Most people alive now will be dead long before any real danger to us occurs. People with out children will have no grand-children / great-grand-children who would be affected, so they see no reason to curb their life style. For some people it is all a long way away, and they put off thinking about it `until to-morrow`. As individuals it seems there is little that we can do, when the giants like USA and China refuse to comply. If people will not willing make changes, there will have to be legislation to force them to do so. What a sad state of affairs, that we do not care about future humanity.

It's not as simple as it seems. I shared your opinion until very recently. I asked the same questions. Then I read "The State Of Fear", by Michael Crighton, it's a novel based on facts. It contains lots of references to scientific research and it made me think. I am now mid study on the arguments for Climate Change, against Global Warming. I am now making up my own mind, based on scientific facts and not what I am being told (albeit by learned people in some cases!) and I have to tell you, I'm quite shocked at the facts and the implications of consequences. Please read it before making your opinions heard, it will make you think twice.

welll why dont you! why dont you protest or something. you know how the saying goes " if you want something done right you just have to do it yourself" i am sure if you catch the worlds tention if you do something extreme eg chain you self to house of parliment. this being against the law but it will show a political point and also it shows that some one in the world is trying.

if your so scared of the eviromental issues why is you pc on. you cant suspect other people to do things when you dont either.

Because they are to selfish to make a change. A good start would be for people to purchase a more enviro-friendly automobile. Instead of buying that Hummer why not purchase a hybrid or a more fuel efficient vehicle.

Hey darlin'. It's because they are more concerned about making a lot of money from petroleum oil products and other toxic things, than about taking care of a beautiful planet and all of the beautiful living things that we share it with.

Most of our pollution is taken care of by plants . The CO2 is automatically recycled which takes care of our air. The recycle of the carbon is also recycled . Where do u think our original fossil fuels came from??
