I moved in October, and so I need my landlord from January-Sept of 2006 to get me the Certificate of Rent Paid form for my tax returns. She does not answer mail and her number is no longer listed. She is a private renter, not with a company. I have googled her name and tried the white pages.

If I can't contact her for this form (which she should KNOW she needs to get to me), can I still do my taxes? This is the last form I'm waiting on and I want to get this done. Can I use a substitute form?

according to Minnesota law, if you are a renter and your landlord refuses to give you a CRP by Feb 15, you may request a Rent Paid Affidavit (RPA) from the Department of Revenue. I think that you might need copy of receipts of rent paid for the months requested. and you must complete a form called M1PR. I got the same issue going on too!

Is this for Minnesota? If so, there is a number at the bottom. If not, just ignore this post.

>>>>Renters: You must have a Form CRP, Certificate of Rent Paid, for each rental unit you lived in during 2006. Your landlord is required by law to give you a completed 2006 CRP no later than January 31, 2007. You will need the CRP to determine your refund, and you must include it with your completed Form M1PR.
If you do not receive your CRP by February 15, 2007, ask your landlord for the form. If you still cannot get it, call the department at 651-296-3781.<<<<
