if i quote a verse i get thumbs downed. however, someone referenced a verse in my last question, and the verse doesnt even exist.
" 2 Peter 2:24 " and people gave him thumbs up.

am i missing something? does anyone look up verses or do they all just take whats being said for the truth? im starting to wonder about the christians on this site. i keep finding false verses here that christians seem to agree with. amazing how no one catches these.

You are so right. Many so called Christians just keep repeating doctrines and traditions of men as their reasoning point. They never take the time to research the Scriptures or look at the context of to whom or why the Scripture was being quoted. Jesus himself said that the religious leaders of his day taught traditions of men and used words to dupe the people into giving them more money. I find that very true today. Look at some of the so called religious shows on TV. All they perpetrate are asking for money from their viewers. Like God needs money? So if you ask an earnest question about the Bible, then do some research and don't look for answers from those who base their belief on the traditions of men. Jesus said the "truth" would set you free. There must then be a "false" out there too.

The short answer to all your questions is that people don't want to know the truth. They crawl under their mountains and say, "...hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?" (Rev 6:16-17)

It is much easier to take in all the things that seem right to you and create your own religion, one in which you are always righteous, rather than subjugate yourself to the one true God.

So when people make up verses, misquote verses, or recite platitudes, they are living in what the Bible calls the twilight. But don't get too puffed up with righteous indignation, because everyone does it. You may have the integrity to at least look up the verses to make sure they are accurate, you may even acknowledge that the bad ones describe the condition of your soul, but few will ever see through all of this to see Christ.

Maybe it was a typo ;)

Anyway, I look up the verses if they're questionable; if they don't seem to line up with the Word.

I'm glad you're looking them up though.

Always read the context.

Anyway, I just read this in the context, and I found it amazingly true:

2 Peter 3:3 Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts.

i think that you should live your life as a Christian. Make your actions, words and deeds Christian like...just because you can quote Bible verses does not make you a Christian. Stop worrying about what people perceive you to be by the verses you can quote.

It is fun to log into another account and do that every once in a while. I didn't do that one, but I can guess what group it was from. The other thing you see all the time is fake miracles. I look them up and call it and I get best answer every time. Someone is making a point.

No, Christians just follow most of what they hear. If they ever took the time to look it up, it would be amazing.

Yes, it is ironic. If they are making an error in the reference, but the quote is right, I don't see a reason to complain. That's nitpicking, and if that's all you can complain about, that's a complement to them. Aside from that, they may be mistaken about two things: in claiming that a nonexistent quote exists, and/or in claiming to be Christians while they are not. Wouldn't it be ironic to find that you're not really complaining about Christians?

What do *you* think? That is what truly matters, because in those situations you are the one who will have to deal with it.
Personally, I don't like verse quoting, because anyone can look up a citation, but few can really think. And it's the thinking anwers you're looking for, isn't it?

My Bible doesn't have 2Peter 2:24 either. Some people don't know their Bible as well as others and in their ignorance just give thumbs up for something that doesn't even exist.

God loves you anyway

I suppose no one takes the time to look up the verses if it's not their question.
