Using the accepted shorthand "Xian" or misspelling it as "Christain" or "Chritsans"?
Someone suggested that using Xian was very disrespectful. Akin to saying "Pops" or "The Big Dude". So is it better to shorten it or to mangle it?
I wonder this because I almost invariably misspell the word when I type it out. In much the same way that people so frequently misspell atheist as "Athiest", and I know how much that annoys me.

Your real concern should be, "Is it disrespectful to Christ?" ~ Michael
Seeing as I'm an atheist and don't believe in your Christ, I don't think that's my main concern. ;)

I really don't think either is offensive!
Using Xtian for me modernises it, and I know that the majority of young and teenage Christians I know use the term. It's like slang, I think somehow it must make it 'cooler' or something lol.
As for misspelling it, well no-one is perfect! Everyone spells some things wrong, I know I certainly do, and I wouldn't be offended if someone spelt Christian wrong at all. Here on Yahoo we're lucky because we have a spell-checker!

The letter X in Xtian or Xian does not stand for taking the Christ out of it. Europeans in the 16th century started using X in place of Christ's name as shorthand for writing Christ. The Christian monks and scholars were knowledgeable of the Greek letter X, - Chi or Khi - which is the first letter in the Greek word "Christos" or "Kristos" (Greek: CristoV) The Greek and Hebrew word "Christos" comes out "Messiah" and mean the same thing: "The anointed One." For many years the X was understood by Christian clergy and as time passed, many Christians, educated and not, were not aware of the meaning.
And everyone makes typos. It shouldn't be considered offensive.

that's what I save attempting to tell people who use words alongside with "invisible crimson unicorn" and "flying spaghetti monster" only to belittle faith. One individual stated because it "playful banter" and advised me to recover from it, yet in actuality, it hurts me, only because it hurts each and every physique else who would not like being made relaxing of. I heavily theory I left all of that lower back in kindergarten, yet some human beings only won't have the ability to seem to enable bypass and end belittling others. to a pair human beings, loving God and accepting him is a enormous comedian tale, yet to me, that's genuinely severe, no longer a giggling rely, and not something to be performed around with. As for that photograph, confident. that's quite offensive, yet they have the wonderful to particular themselves, as do the rest human beings. i assume, in the top, you only could wish that each and every physique is superb sufficient to no longer disrespect you, even whether that's rarely the case.

Replacing Christ with an x is disrespectfull just like taking Christ out of Christmas. But tilt the X to the side and it makes a cross which He died on for our sins. And all who will receive his shed blood receives heavenly eternal life

Well it is disrespectful any of those ways. I am sorry for spelling Athiest wrong sometimes. That's disrespectful as well and should be put into consideration as well. We should all learn to respect each other no matter what religion (or non religous) we are.

Well I wonder...
Can you spell or say: anti-christ?
Cause I think those who are the Non-Believers in CHRIST, will get a good chance to come to know him (anti-christ) when he FORCES YOU to BOW DOWN and worship him or his image.
Don't worry about the SMALL STUFF...
It's all small stuff.
Well, unless maybe you miss out on an ETERNITY IN PARADISE.
But then I am just one of those WHACKED OUT Christians, who has to follow all the MISCONCEPTIONS of the HOLY BIBLE.
Which man has changed and ruined for all time...
Well I still know I have God in my heart, I know He has saved my life many times, and I know I will be praying for all non-believers.
Even if they think my GOD, Is imaginary.
Oh I forgot to answer the question.
I do not think anybody really minds that much if you make an honest mistake...
But then if you get flack about it, well you know that they do.
GOOD TIMES.

Many misspelling of the term 'Christian' do not bother me presently; people make honest mistakes. They just have to justify misspelling Christ's name to him!

There's no need to shorten or mis-spell it. It doesn't take a lot of time or effort to key "Christian" correctly, and I do that because I don't like to see "atheist" mis-spelled. It is inconsiderate to discuss religion with people and not bother to key the names of those religions correctly. It also makes you look like you don't know what you're talking about ("if he can't even spell 'Christian', why is he talking about it?")

It's easier to shorthand some things. Like, gov't. I don't misspell christian, but I don't shorthand it either. My preference.
