Rattler M

The RAF regiment is part of the SFSG along with the royal marines and Paras so they must be pretty close to them.

The RAF regiment is basically the army part of the RAF. There main role is defending airfields which involves guarding etc. The basic training is done at RAF Honington and were most of there Sqns are based when in the UK. They are very similar to the Army, when in the UK they train for the overseas detachments. They sometime get a bad name but the 'rocks' i've met in my time have been nice guys who are very dedicated to there job.
Hope this helps.

The RAF regiment were formed to defend airbases.Because of service in Gibralter they are nicknamed rock apes. They have their own paracute regiment and antiaircraft units. The RAF Fire Service were also part of the regiment though that could have changed. The regiment was one of the first to be deployed to Ulster so they dont always just guard things.

Mostly guarding and defending RAF bases, I think...

EDIT: it seems that I was broadly right with the above... yet someone gave me the thumbs down. I wonder what they thought the RAF Regiment was for....

I have worked with a few in the past and found them great to laugh at. They come across as if they are akin to Royal Marines or Army infantry but all they do is guard a runway. Big deal.

Everyone that I have met in the RAF have been very dull indeed. Admittedly I have not met them all, and I'm sure there are some quite interesting folk too, but I have not met them and I've met no one else who have met them. We liken interesting RAF personnel to Oompa Loompas, no one sees them go in and no one sees them come out.......
