I was looking at a seahorse charm for my necklace, but was wondering does a seahorse has some representation in the christian community. I dont want to buy something and someone gets upset and tells me it means something bad. Like i knew a girl named venus. and she changed her name because she said it represented something about the devil. If anyone know anything about a seahorse let me know, buying a charm is just too add decor to my 10kt rope. thx

Nope, as far as I know the seahorse has no Christian meaning what so ever.

Symbols only have the meaning that you give to them, and the meanings change over the years. Take the pentagram, it was a symbol of good luck or ward against evil, then in the late 1700 is was put in a book as a symbol to summon demons (purely made up). This didn't have an effect on the general meaning until it was used in Hollywood movies in the early 1960's. Morale of the long story, Hollywood determines what evil is....

Why do you think a seahorse would represent something in the Christian community? That sounds a bit odd. I happen to think seahorses are very beautiful and mysterious creatures.

The girl named Venus was given that as what is called her "Christian" name. I think it's kind of silly to change it. And as far as I know, a seahorse isn't any type of Christian symbol. If it is, I'm guilty too, because I scuba dive and have tons of symbols of the ocean.

I really don't think so............never really thought about a sea horse as a bad symbol for Christians. I am pretty sure that it is not.
