It's not even a religion... it's a cult. And yes, most of these organizations, be they religions, cults, mysticisms, etc... they're all pretty much bizarre. The reason I dislike Scientology is because it's a direct physical and psychological harm. Read the following and then dare tell me it ISN'T dangerous:

• Operation Snow White – Under this program, Scientology operatives committed infiltration, wiretapping, and theft of documents in government offices. This program constituted the single largest infiltration of the United States government in history. Among the 11 prominent Scientologists convicted of this conspiracy was Mary Sue Hubbard, the wife of Scientology’s “prophet”.

• Operation Freakout - Their campaign of sabotage and violence against Paulette Cooper, the writer who published her research and findings on several cults, including Scientology. Scientology’s official plan: to frame Paulette, ruin her career and reputation and get her sent either to jail or psychiatric confinement.

• Fair Game - the Scientology policy detailing how the organization may confront and handle critics and perceived enemies. Here is a direct quote: "Enemies may be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed.”

• Violent Kidnapping - Lisa McPherson was a Scientologist, was involved in a car accident and resultantly became mentally unstable, was kidnapped by agents of Scientology, held against her will, refused proper psychiatric treatment and was allowed to STARVE TO DEATH.

• Jeremy Perkins - A CBS “48 Hours” special on the mentally disturbed son of Scientologist parents who refused to put him on the anti-psychotic drugs that would have stabilized him & prevented him from killing his own mother.

I think if you look at it you will see much of it is related to other religions. I have seen a more mystical side of Scientology and some of the teachings seem to be very mythological but may hold allegorical truths. I have seen they have a set up and teachings which reminded me of Kabbalah and Masonic like levels of teaching. It may seem very bizarre to many but must people have not studied its core ideals to see what it is all about. Many people are uncomfortable with joining a Chirtian sect or traditional sect for various personal reasons and scientology maybe able to get the person to the same spiritual level just using different setup.

I have nothing against it or other sects that seem unorthodox to mainstream religions.

Well of course it's not a joke, but it is definitely creating a lot of
noise on this forum.
Maybe when folks stop inventing false ideas or speculating or generally criticising/ ridiculing anything that they don't understand and actually find out for themselves , the noise will die away.
Meanwhile from what I can see it's all just a bunch of noise.
Scientology is still a religion, is still growing and happily will continue to do so, regardless.

For me, I don't dislike it because of it's beliefs - I dislike it because it scares the crap outta me. No-one knows how much it's making in terms of income. When America's top anti-Cult organisation declared it a cult, Scientology BOUGHT it! Now that's scary. When a religion is wealthy enough to simply buy out anything that might try to critisize it, i'll admit it frightens me. They also make their members PAY to gain enlightenment - if you want to know the best secrets, you have to go to the most expensive seminars, some costing upwards of $1million. No-one should have to pay to be happy, and if they believe that scientology is neccessary for happiness, then they're trying to charge people for the basic right of humanity.

The thing with Scientology is that it was created a short time ago, and by a KNOWN science fiction writer.

Would you up and follow an author who specialized in aliens and space travel who decided one day to create a new religion where there are aliens and space travel?

All religions can't be right. There is only one God and he has a son named Jesus. If you are like me and believe that then all the other religions can not be right and must be false. They can't all be right. If one is right about God and who he is then the others are wrong by default.

You can look at a map of Texas all day long and swear to people that it's a map of New York...but guess what...it's still a map of Texas. There is such a thing as TRUTH.

Scientology was created by a man who wrote science fiction novels right? Nuff said.

All religions are equally bizarre, although not all of them have the Scientology "two drink minimum"

All religion is based on the false assumption that there are gods of some sort. Some religions seem more odd than others, depending on the culture you were brought up in.

Scientology is based off a sci-fi series.
The strange beliefs are just as valid as the Biblical ones...
Hypocritical? Yes.
