I have a mental disability. I was on SSI for a year, then the judge took it away on me. I reapplied and got denied, so now I'm under 2 appeals. I have a lawyer. Are there anyt special tests i should request? What kind of information should be in my records/dr. info ? SSI said I'm not severe enough to keep me from working, but I know I am. ANy help would be appreciated, especially from someone who works with Social Security or is on SSI...

Get this book : Nolo's guide to social security disability. Go to Nolo.com. This is a group of lawyers who specialize in self-help legal books. I used their bankruptcy and divorce books and they were excellent. You may be able to get this book at your local library - it is really good, i read it, (but it didn't come out until after I was on social security). I dunno how good your lawyer is.

A lot of times if you are a young person, especially if you have a college degree, it is very very hard to get social security disability. If you have schizophrenia/bipolar, it is not as difficult, becuase these are usually really bad, if you have depression/PTSD/anxiety, well there are all levels of severity of these disorders, and it is harder to know if it is really bad enough that you can't even flip burgers at McDonald's or bag groceries. For me, the reason I was able to get it is because I have severe bipolar and PTSD, and I can function only some of the time. Remember, you can't get SSI just because you can't work at the job you had before - you have to show you can't hold down ANY job. The book will tell you a lot more than I can.

Good luck!

You can appeal the decision. Social Security normally denies a first request and there is the matter of a judgement against you. knowing that you are severely disabled and proving it are two different things. You will need psychiatric evaluations in your favor to make your case.

Just keep on trying again I am on it to and I had to go like 3 times before I got it. I get SSI. If your disability is bad enough you will get it. Mine is a hearing loss.

Sounds like it's time to join the real world, get a job and be a productive individual for a change. Why should those of us that do work take care of you anyway?

If you are on medication and under a dr's care then you should have them send a letter that may help.

If you have a lawyer, then why are you in here seeking info? He/she should be able to answer all your questions.
