I'm 16 and enrolled in college. For the last 8 months, I've been dating a 22 year-old. My family has allowed this because he acts like a teen. This semester he began to take a Human Sexuality course. The course is very explicit in nature and the textbook is extremely graphic. To keep us at an even level maturity-wise, my parents have told me that I have to take the course as well, or he has to drop it for us to continue going out. I really am not ready for the type of material covered in the course.

He is an only child and his parents basically run his life. They will not allow him to drop the course. What should we do?

If his family won't 'allow' him to drop the course, unless he's willing to go against their wishes it's not really an option is it? I'm not getting the 'to keep us at an even level maturity-wise'. What has compatible maturity-level got to do with taking the same course? I think a bigger problem is how controlling your parents are, and you think HIS parents run his life? JEEZ!

Drop the two courses. Stay in the music program. You've already gotten in so don't drop out.

Grow up, sex is a normal thing and you're going to learn about it sooner or later. If you want to be together you will do this for him. Oh yeah, and maybe you should ask your parents why they're allowing you to date a man who is that much older than you in the first place.

If the man is studying human sexuality, what does that have to do with your parents? Or to a lesser degree, you? He is just trying to educate himself to get a better job in later life, I GUARANTEE your parents wouldnt say this if he was doing Law or Medicine. If you and him are happy, thats all that matters.

You shouldn't be dating someone that much older than you. You're 16 for gosh sakes, find a nice boy your age that treats you right and you'll be much happier.
