I had blood drawn for a physcial last week. When the lab drew my blood, I had a bit of a cold and had taken some cold meds the day before. Now the Dr. wants to see me because I have a low white blood cell count. (I have an appointment this evening). Could the low count results be because I was sick? They have me a little worried. Thanks.

Your low count could also be the reason WHY you were ill. A low white cell count isnt something to be worried about straight away, they probably just want to check that u over. Actually being ill gives u a highe wbc count as more are produced to fight bacteria, this is why people with low levels are suceptible to infection. It probably just a routine follow up, The WBC count tends to be lower in the morning and higher in the late afternoon so that could also affect it. Low WBC count can be related to your liven, spleen, or any exposure to radiation. WBC counts are age-related as well. Also certain drugs can lower your white cell count. Drugs that may decrease WBC counts include antibiotics, anticonvulsants, antihistamine, antithyroid drugs, arsenicals, barbiturates, chemotherapeutic agents, diuretics, and sulfonamides. Diet is also a key factor in WBC count. The better (spinach, fruit, garlic pumpkin) the better your count. At the end of the day you are gping to the best place to find out so dont panic, Best of Luck :)

when a cell count is low, it determines alot of things. You might have a cold, you might have Leukemia, sometimes people with Aids have this, not to say its you. When it goes up or down something is going wrong. YOur immune system is low. Dont worry, just have them do a complete blood count and an a WCC, and have them compare the to.

White blood cell counts are used to determine if you have some of the more common diseases, like an appendix that is not doing like it should!! I don't think you should panic until you see what the doctor has to say! If it something that simple, they can remove your appendix and that will probably take care of it.

Yes it could be low because you had a cold. If there's a problem, the lab will notify the doctor soon and you'll be told. Try not to worry. You're probably ok.

actually, you're white blood cell count should be higher because you're sick. WBCs fight infections, and since you are sick, our body produces more WBCs. but it could be that the medicine you took made your WBCs low. hopefully your doctor can clarify this.
