It depends on your age. How old are you? If you are younger than 13, then its reasonable that you would be embarrassed. You dont want your parents knowing your business. But if you are older than that, its time to tell the truth and come clean.

There is nothing to be embarrassed about. Your mom and dad were your age once in thier life. They remember having a crush on someone. However, back then we weren't so lucky to have all the communication devices you guys have. We had to write a note, only to be handed to someone else first, then they would secretely drop it off on the person's desk who we liked. Some were too shy to hand deliver it. Me? I prefer in-person meetings of the heart. As you get older, you'll learn that face-to-face is where it's at!

If I were you, I would talk to my dad about it. He'll give you some advice and the advice he gives you should listen. He'll probably tell you how he went wrong with the women when he was your age. The last thing you want to do is show the girl you are embarrassed. Don't let her know that it embarrasses you when your parents are talking to you about her. Girls like strong confident men. The more confidence you have about who you are then the more opportunity you'll have to be successfull with women.

So hold your head up high, having feelings for someone is perfectly natural. Mom and Dad know so you can talk to them. They've been there, done that!

"Aww...hooney....you've got a little girlfriend? Awwww....! I remember when I used to change your wittle diapers! You had the cutest wittle bottom...except when you were pooping all over the place! DO YOU remember when you were three and you REFUSED to wear a diaper for three weeks? You'd just rip them RIGHT OFF and would just go potty wherever? That's when your father and I knew you were ready to be potty trained! Do you remember your first wee-wee in the potty?! I don't remember if we got rid of that video tape...I should ask Uncle Charles if he still has it...I'm sure your little girlfriend would LOVE to see it!"

The above is a reproduction of a conversation I ACTUALLY HAD WITH MY MOTHER! She was talking about my "little boyfriend" but other than that this is a completely faithful reproduction. So the embarrassment about your parents finding out about your significant other? Completely normal. There's no way to stop it. Just accept it and move on. The embarrassment will fade over time, and as you go through girlfriends, so you don't have to fret...this is not a forever situation.

It's normal to feel embarrassed because you feel that they are going to pry and ask you crazy questions. I think that you should one day talk to her while they are around because I am sure they realize you are talking to someone. And be proud. They may think you are talking to a guy. (smile). SO don't hide it. Believe you me they were your age once and the only speech they can give you is the birds and the bees.

Do your parents tease you maybe? It's natural to want to keep some stuff private, I'm sure you don't know everything about their relationship. It's about respecting boundaries and privacy, you'll work it out.

I think it's normal to feel this way around your parents with your first relationship. Don't worry about it, they were young once, too and have been through what you are going through now. Be yourself and have fun.
