Ever since I was small my mom and dad were always smokers. My dad eventually moved out when I was 20 but I'm still living with my mom who continues to smoke. Since I grew up with it, I got used to it.

My boyfriend moved in with us 6 months ago from a non-smoking environment. He has had lots of breathing problems and has complained of feeling ill. I explained this to my mom and we've taken measures to decrease the smoke levels.

In the last few days after having done this I find myself getting dizzy and nauseous all the time. I've started to wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that I've been used to high levels of second hand smoke for most of my life and am not used to the lack of it. Could this be some sort of withdrawl?

I've never heard of anyone getting withdrawls from second hand, but I thought I'd see what anyone else knew.

You need to get your place checked for carbon monoxide. (My niece had the same symptoms and her daughter didn't have any) OR maybe you're pregnant? I would say that is not withdrawals from second hand smoke.

I wouldn't doubt it at all. It's been said that for every cigarette smoked in an enclosed environment, a non-smoker inside also smokes half. You won't be getting nearly as much nicotene as the one with the cigarette, but there could very well be some in the second-hand smoke.

However, what steps have you taken to reduce the smoke? If you're using ionizers or humidifiers of some kind, they often give off a subtle smell that could also be causing your nausea.

Good Question. Nausea is not typically a withdrawal symptom but everyone is different. I am a smoker and I have noticed one symptom that every person going through withdrawal will have. Its simply your attitude. Personally I get depressed and a nasty temper (which I never have) will appear out of no where. So pay close attention to your emotions and it could give you a clue.
