My eighteen year old son is away at college. He works part time. Does he need to file a return? He made approx $1500. I'm claiming him as a dependent.

If he received a W-2 to report it, and there was federal tax withholding on it, he should file a return. He would be able to get all of the withholding back, even though you are claiming him as a dependent.

No he doesn't have to, if it was all from his job. If anything was withheld for federal income taxes, he should file to get it refunded to him.
