however I dont believe people speak the truth when they say it is religion, the most religious people who are righteous are healthy.

I believe it is chemical poisoning, Methamphetamine = sorcery.

You think that all mental illnesses are caused by chemical poisoning and sorcery? I thought that backwards mind-set died off over a century ago, I guess not.

Mental illness is caused by a variety of factors, none of which is sorcery. And yes in some situations a person's religion can be harmful and exacerbate the illness.

While I don't agree with your "meth" theory, I do agree that it is not religion that causes mental illness.

The fact is that people with mental illness enjoy the benefits of religion ... fitting in with others, acceptance based on your soul's value rather than fleshly value ... they get no real spiritual growth from it as they should. It's a place to hide.

Belief in a supernatural being in this day and age: mental illness.

No other way to say it. Faith is a belief in something for which there is no proof. Doesn't make it right or wrong - it's a BELIEF - many many millions have been born and died believing in all kinds of crazy sh*t - that rocks have souls, that angels exist, that thunder is caused by Thor's hammer, that the sun rises if you sacrifice a virgin, that plants grow if you eat the heart of your victims...whatever - you couldn't make this stuff up. But they truly BELIEVED it all - too bad for them.

Religion doesn't cause mental illness. Religion is a mental illness.

It would seem to be a form of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is the inability to properly perceive reality. Symptoms include disorganized thinking, delusions, and hallucinations (especially auditory hallucinations - e.g. the voice of god).

All of these seem to describe the more "committed" religious people here.

There is also a school of thought that would link OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) to schizophrenia. This would explain the inner needs to pray, attend church, etc. seen in Christian cultists.
