go to www.limewire.com and download the basic version [which is free]. after you download it open it and on the left side it has different options like "audio". "audio" is the one to download music. click on it and it will give you options to type in a title, author, select a genre, things like that. after you type in the desired information click enter and a list of songs and/or artists will come up on the right. click on the songs you want to down load and click the button that says download. the songs you choose will appear at the bottom of the limewire screen and will tell you how far it has downloaded [15%, 20% etc.] once it reaches 100% it is then saved onto your computer.

Yes and no. Technically it is possible (I'll explain which steps to take later on). In legal aspect for 99% of the songs it isn't allowed to be downloaded because they have a copyright, but it is possible though.
Steps to use and download limewire:
1. Download the software via http://www.limewire.com
2. Install te package
3. The installation process will ask you a couple of questions. One of them is where the downloaded files should be placed. Also you should provide the location of folders with files you would like to share with other users. Doing this will keep the network active and I have doubts that you might even get a better performance (speed) when sharing lots of files. Please be aware not to share folders with files that you don't want others to see (word documents, private photos, etcetera).
Limewire is a product that is quite user friendly. When you have started it, click on the SEARCH tab. Choose the type of file you would like to find, in your case AUDIO and then enter details of the song you would like to find and press search.
A new window within the application will open and you will be able to see the results coming in. Make sure to look at the FILE SIZE of the offered downloads. Quite often phoney files are being offered. Keep in mind that a MP3 (song) should be between 1,5 and 8 megabytes in filesize. Don't bother downloading anything under 1,5 megabytes.
Double click a file that you would like to have and the software will download it, as long as there are enough people (at least 1) sharing the file. You might get different results each time you log in to Limewire again because other people might be online with another collection with files.
Good luck!
Erik

well when you downloaded limewire you were asked to create a folder to where your music was stored. If not then you might of used the defult wich would be "shared files". everytime you downlaod a song, they will transfer to the folder. From there you can select them and they will play on you music player.

Our IT guy at work says that is not a good site as far as security goes. Along with free music you can also get many, many viruses that you won't really know about until it's too late.
I guess their product idea is great, but their delivery system needs to be a little more secure.
