I find myself less and less itnerested in choosing a best answer. But I'm wondering if it is considered poor form to never do so. What are your thoughts?

I like to put mine to vote and then I make a vote. I think it's up to the people to choose a best answer. If I choose it then it's biased. But there are some times that I do choose a best answer, if I really REALLY like a certain one.

Blessed Be.

It's not really bad etiquette, but come on, it's a bit annoying. We only get 2 measly points for answering them, it's kind of nice to be rewarded once in a while. I always try to pick a best answer; I never put it to the vote because people just choose the most funny answer, not those of the people who spent hours searching on Google for the amps that Coldplay used at their last gig, or the cheapest Star Wars laser on the market.

Ok, you so have to make this the best answer now...

People have put the time and effort into answering your question, so, I would of thought the least the 'asker' could do is choose the best answer.Whats the point in letting other people choose when they have no interest in your Q or A and are only after the points anyway.

Yes it is bad etiquette....what is the alternative?

The alternative is to let a "select" few people who do not have the capabilities that yourself does to choose or vote for a best answer, and sometimes that will be decided by only 1 vote, and that person may not even have read that vote.

Plus, you get 3 points for doing it.

Those are my thoughts.

I've only asked 6 questions on here, and I chose a best answer myself on 5 of them because one person really did give me the answer I needed or was looking for. The other one I let go to vote, as I thought everyone who read it should be able to choose. The answer to that one was more opinion-oriented, more subjective. The others were looking for specific information, so I chose. But I usually appreciate it when someone decides outright instead of letting it go to vote.

Sometimes there simply isn't a best answer. Sometimes there are no good answers at all, or no one satisfactorially answers the question. So I don't always choose a best answer. I think askers should go back and read the answers to look for a best, but if there is no best answer so be it.

It is hard to give a best answer for me, but if I don't then the self-voting points gamers will choose themselves as best every time.
Yes, I do consider it bad form, but not because of the points--I like to know when my answer made a connection with the asker.

Not always, I let some go to vote, just to see the results. If someone has a really great answer, I'll pick it. I like to give credit where it is due, sometimes the answers all all non-serious, or annoying, which is O.K., I do that too at times, but sometimes I am looking for a real answer.

I think voting is open to abuse. Choosing a best answer indicates that you were interested enough in getting the answer you wanted in the first place. Most trolls simply throw a question out there and never look at it again.

Sometimes my answers have no best answers, so I do not choose one. But I like to search them to see if there was a best answer. Sometimes people forget and the time frame goes by for them to choose. Honestly, I don't care if you do not choose best answer- BUT others will and you may be bothered with what they chose. As for me, I want to choose best answer because I do not want others choosing some lame or false answer.

Generally, it's good to choose an answer. But a friend of mine recently asked a question, and the responses were so ridiculous and poorly informed that selecting a "best" answer wasn't even a serious option.
