lettuce is one of the veggies that will oxidate very easily, this is what makes it brown shortly after you cut it, when the cell walls break, oxygen comes in and oxidates it.
If you mean how to cut it in advance and keep it healthy, first of all try to cut it as much nearer to your eating time as possible.
Secondly, always cut it with your hands, never use a knife and keep it unseasoned until ready to eat.
If you meanhow to keep it, in a good nylon bag in the lower side of the fridge where there is cool air but not too much cold, it will do great.

Only tear lettuce or use a plastic lettuce knife.
Wash, drain well and blot off excess water or spin dry, wrap in a paper towel and place in a Ziplock bag. If you can find the semi-porous veggie bags, even better.
Romaine will last a lot longer than most lettuces.

Tearing it by hand instead of cutting with knife will help it from turning brown. If you want to wash them ahead of time, make sure you drain it well, use a salad spinner and keep it in the spinner in the fridge. If you don't have a salad spinner, put it in a colander, cover with damp paper towel. Spray the paper towel with water once a day or when it gets dry.
