it's a waste of money, why not stop arresting marijuana smokers and educate them not to smoke it ,but to eat it 100 percent safe to consume.I say research alcohol prohibition and your answers are government likes bigger government and most love to have those big money grants given to them from wasteful government. To be honest most drug laws are more harmful then the drug itself.why are there drug dealers? the same reason you had Capone and gangsters PROHIBITION causes more harm then the drugs themselves.Drug laws from feds or states don't stop people from using drugs.Corporate laws dictate if a person uses drugs.A person weighs his job versus his drug of choice and if he doesn't.he usually will get caught and lose his or her job. End the drug war and the billions of dollars wasted to stop something they cant or better yet outlaw alcohol again then maybe they will have a clue why the violence and bad drugs are on a black market .remember when alcohol was illegal, people went blind from drinking. Why because it was in a unregulated black market. anyone who supports the failed drug war should be arrested for stupidity. note for former poster actually marijuana is 100 percent safe to eat,not one harmful effect in eating marijuana.FACT smoking marijuana as in smoke in lungs is the only dangerous effect from using.THC is less toxic then most foods we eat so yes MARIJUANA IS 100 PERCENT SAFE TO EAT,SCIENCE HAS PROVEN THIS.5% of population has addictive qualitys.drug laws can damagea kid more then the drug itself in most instances, some have problems but we can address them thru rehab not prison. If you add up all the deaths in a year from all drugs ,it still doesnt come close to the legal drug alcohol.Remove the black markets and you will solve over half the overdose problems and criminal acitiity. It worked when we removed prohibition from alcohol. simple answer isa the drug war has failed,do you think prison has stopped drugs? no it hasnt.

As a police officer for over 30 years working narcotics for over 20 years...

I have too often seen the results of what illegal drugs and drug addiction do to our youth as well as adults and the families associated with these folks.

Drugs are not secluded to a specific group of ethnic group but to all walks of life.

As I would tell my own child, I'd prefer to know that the pilot of my airplane, doctor performing my surgery, or lawyer finalizing my legal documents were competent and not making mistakes due to drug abuse.

You can't tell me that marijuana is good and has no downfalls. You can tell me that there are drugs which cause more IMMEDIATE harm and yet because I'm required by law AND oath to represent the laws equally....I have no other choice than to effect an arrest when a law is broken in my presense.

As for marijuana specifically, it is classified under the Controlled Substance Act of 1970 (CSA) in Schedule I due to its' lack of medical use, potential for abuse, and potential for addiction.

Two federal departments, the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services (which includes the Food and Drug Administration) determine which drugs are added or removed from the various schedules, though the statute passed by Congress created the initial listing.

I believe these folks are more prone to provide health information from the experts than we are in the streets.

Best wishes!

Are you kidding me??? Have you ever really seen or worked with someone who was/is an addict? I think you would change your mind if someone you loved was/is an addict or you became a crime victim by someone who was/is drug seeking. I hear the same arguement all the time about the legalization of pot versus alcohol. I agree that both substance should be illegal but I am not a politician. I suggest you do a little more research into addictions.

The war on drugs is just a way for the government to make more money. They want their cut of income from drugs that are being sold illegally.

Too much power is given to any type of war. Let us all concentrate on Peace.

I agree with you on the weed thing. But the harder drugs have really bad effects on society-- especially meth, cocaine, etc. I'd be ok with providing (selling) to druggies in a controlled environment-- that could kill the black market on drugs.

You should realize that the two are connected. Opium crops are huge out of afghanistan and guess what, the money they make funds warlords and terrorists.

The more society would use drugs, the more its productivity would decline. The government doesn't want its society to decline. I partially agree with you, but what you are proposing will never be accepted.

Because drugs are bad, mmmmkay?

Seriously though. It's isn't necessarily the drugs that are the problem....it's the stupid **** that people do while they are wasted that's the problem.
