dear friends

this is regarding my uncle's car driver. my uncle lives with his wife and daughter in a metro city. they have a sumo jeep.

they have a driver who takes care of it and sometimes does errand jobs for my aunt like buying veggies, paying the telephone, electricity bill etc.

they have a daughter who is my kid cousin sister. she is a really adorable girl. She is all the time bubbly and cheerful.

I have often noticed the driver trying to get physical with the girl. He does actions like pinching her cheeks, pulling her pony tail etc.

In my uncle's absence i have also noticed this guy slapping my cousin's butt. he also sometimes blow flying kisses. is this done in a friendly way ??

Do i really raise an alarm in this case ? the driver is actually a trustworthy person. He does his job well and is well mannered.

But his behavior vis a vis my cousin is disturbing.

How should we deal with this delicate issue ?

your ideas are solicited.

Listen I had a uncle who is no longer in the family due to many things.

He is the guy that you can call and count on for everything. He is usually the guy with a smile on his face and opened to watch your kids and do things for ya. Seems like he is good with kids, but yeah a little to much.

My uncle did the same thing to me, as your driver is doing to your cousin. Seems innocent enough right? But how about when no one is around.

My uncles comments would become more disturbing, and more provacative. At the time I was only 10yrs old. He would often try to give me a dollar for a kiss. He made it look like a joke, but many things made me realize, he was more than just a joker, but he was certainly disturbed.

This man may very well be trusted with his job and does it well, but it seems he should be watched. He should be more respectful and guard his actions. He may mean no harm, but it seems very inappropriate. Many times they do their job best, so they have the interaction with those they want. You become trusted, you have a bigger advantage.

How old is your cousin? Always take something serious, cause if you don't worse things could occur.

Goodluck to you and your cousin.

Dear,

Your worries may be unfoun or real. Only you can determine whether the driver's unwanted actions ( what you think as unwanted) are a proable threat. You have to keep in mind the age of your cousin and of driver. Before raising the issue, you can be more observant with driver's behaviour.

His behaviour may not be anything more than a friendly behaviour towards the child. Please discuss this issue with anyone senior in your family. Certainly, blowing kisses and slapping the butts is not an acceptable behaviour.

It is better that you discuss this out with someone in your family before it turns out to be late.

First and far most make sure that you tell your cousin that she has done NOTHING wrong, in some cases the person who is doing things to a child makes them believe that they are the ones that are the cause of his actions..Make sure that she is not at fault in anyway...You also may want to ask with kids gloves meaning that she can be to scared to say anything about this..Let her know that she can trust you no matter what and will never think bad of her...When she does tell you make sure that you let her know that you will be at her side when she tells her parents...

I think you are asking this question, because you have a "gut" feeling, listen to your instints, you would not be disturbed if something was not right, he should not touch the childs bottom,(even in a playfull manner). Pedophiles are very crafty in luring small children into a false sense of security, they make them believe that they are the childs friend, then the touching escalates. Raise the alarm, this child could be in danger. don't worry about making a fuss, it's better to be safe than sorry.

I agree, bring it up to your aunt or uncle. If it is something that would make you uncomfortable happening to your own child (or yourself), you should make the parents aware of your lack of comfort and why. Even children have personal space that should be respected and touching their butt, in fun or not, is out of line for a driver (I'd smack him for touching mine!). As a Mom, I know I wouldn't like it and would definately want to be made aware.

Talk to you cousin about this first and foremost. If what he's doing is uncomfortable to her, sit down with her and your aunt. Explain the situation to your aunt. Hopefully with both you and your cousin there she will believe you and possibly fire the driver.
