Unless otherwise marked -

40mph on single carriageways
50mph on dual carriageways (with a central reservation)
60mph on motorways (but any HGV newer than 1996 must be fitted with a speed limiter set at 90km/h or 56mph)

There is actually a campaign to increase the maximum speed for HGVs, as the 40mph speed limit does cause a lot of congestion (I know, I drove artics for 15 years...)

Normally 40 mph if over 7.5 tonnes, but it can be less.

Hands up those who forgot fairground wagons pulling double-tralers and vehicles carrying wide loads etc.

Depending upon which category the vehicle falls under, the speed limit can be as low as 20mph, or as high as 30mph.

Large agricultural vehciles and things like mobile-cranes are also subject to lower limits than LGV vehicles over 7.5 tonnes.

40 mph on single carriageway
50 mph on dual carriageway without central barrier
56 mph on dual carriageway with central barrier.

The 56 mph on all other routes is the maximum speed limiter setting for an hgv.
