Yesterday I had my root canal tooth crowned. It fit fine...even with some space underneath it. I woke up this morning and the crown was too high. I don't understand why this would happen. It makes me think there is swelling occurring underneath. Could a professional please advise??? Thank you.

Hi Angelina, how are you?

The feeling of a crown being 'too high' is common within the first week or so of having it fitted.

Your tongue etc is not accustomed to having the new crown there, its a foreign body however u will get used to it.

IF it is a little high it can be smoothed off by your dentist quickly and easily to make a microscopic alteration to make it fit.

OR it can be taken off and the hollow in it deepened to fit more snugly on the prepared tooth. Howevr it IS very difficult to judge the occlusion yourself (ie your bite) as the new crown wil be sensitive to other teeth, it literally feels bigger or higher..this settles down, however return to dentist and voice your concerns..its a very simple matter.

A simple impression taken off your bite will allow your dentist to ascertain if there is any fractional change.

Its common and not a problem to fix.. DONT worry..no problems there at all

G'luck

HI..I'm adding this on now after reading the answer below me..
FAR from wanting to get into a slanging match with "Shyteforbrains" who replied to your question I stand by my answer, that what you're feeling is normal IF U HAVE NO PAIN and I think u will clarify my answer when u return to your dentist to have the crown checked.

As ANY dentist could tell you IF there was sufficient infection to cause swelling and the crown to raise you'd have a lot of pain.
IF u haven't pain its due to its new-ness. I presume the tooth is root canalled for a while it would be a most unfortunate coincidence for an abscess infection to occur as soon as a crown was fitted..the crown is new ,it feels funny, its very normal.

May I also add that for a dentist,or indeed anyone witha brain "shyteforbrains" gives some pretty unusual answers not only on dental questions but also in Mental health where he gave another user suggestions on suitable knots for hanging themselves..check his profile answers.

See your dentist, no problems!
Again good luck..

the answers are rubbish..........of course there is someting to swell........the tip of the root is focussing some infection as the root treatment is not a success (can happen-no blame to mr dentist)-the build up of pus is raising the tooth a bit, and hopefully some antibiotic will fix it, but if it keeps recurring, it may need re- root treating or extracting.

There is nothing under there to swell. Call your dentist.

You should contact your dentist. We cannot help you by description.
