Your doctor can give you the odds of success in eliminating the constant pain. But having broken my back years ago....constant pain isn't worth ignoring the opportunity to eliminating the pain.

No one likes surgery...heck I didn't. But considering the possibility of being in pain for years..I would seriously consider the surgical option.

Speck with your doctor and get a second opinion.

I have the same problem. I had surgery 2 years ago, 2 cervical discectomies with fusion, plate and screws. It took over a year to recuperate and the range of motion is very limited. Pressure on 2 discs below the fused discs are now herniated with pressure on the nerves and now I'm losing strength in my arms. So, I feel your pain. If you elect to have fusion, the discs above and/or below the fusion can herniate due to the extra stress on those discs. So, you're right, it's a 50/50 crummy decision to have to make. There are other less invasive surgeries now and I'll post a link for you to look through. You can Google cervical disc decompression and there are a lot of sites with lots of information. I sure do feel bad for you and hope you can find some relief. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this.

HI! That made ME hurt when i read your question. You are going to HAVE to have surgery it sounds like. I KNOW it's a scary thing. I JUST had a total hip replacement and i was soooooooo scared and put it off for about a month, and in just that 1 month it got (the pain) twice as BAD!!!!! So you are going to have to just suck it up and get the surgery bc the longer you wait the WORSE it's going to get!!!!!!!!!! I have also had 2 major back surgeries in 2005 and i had to finally have my lumber fused so i know alot about the back.............but i would get a 2nd opionion on any back surgery. GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

doesn't sound like you have much choice surgery is eminent. I would have it done before the area becomes worse or you become weaker.

get a couple different doctors opinions on this one, and if you haven't tried one yet, maybe go to a chiropractor.
Feel better!
