Trust me... people who are "fat" already know it... no need to point it out. However, you have to ask yourself what are you using as a guideline for "fat?" Do you compare her to the models or actresses on TV or Paris Hilton? Are you using society's barometer for "fatness?" She might actually be within the guidelines for health and you are just trying to make her into something that "normal" people are NOT.... the average size woman in America is actually closer to a size 10-12... not a size zero like you might think is "cute."
If you are her friend and she is truly overweight by more than 20 pounds, then maybe you should invite her to go walking with you instead of going to the local fast-food restaurant. Maybe you can join a healthy cooking class with her or take up yoga or pilates. Do things with her that develop a healthy lifestyle.
And lastly, don't judge her based on one aspect of her appearance... if she has pretty eyes, tell her. If she wears something cute, tell her.... and also find the positive aspects of her character and compliment her on those things... the more positive feedback she gets from you, the more likely she will be to have the courage to go ahead and join you for that walk, that class, or that friendship you claim to provide.

The best waynot to hurt her feelings to is keep the "secret"
she is the one to determine if she's fat, overweight, etc. and what
she can or can't do to improve her image. Is there really a valid
reason that can be used for a "friend" to pass along this hurtful
information ?

IF she's your friend, she's your friend, why would u want to tell her she's fat??????? Are u seven years of age, cos it's like something a young child might ask
If not to hurt her, why? Do u think she doesn't know? Of course she does.
Friends are supposed to support each other not make each other feel bad.. nobody's perfect.
Dont say anythng just be a friend

If she is a little heavy let it go. If she is living a really unhealthy lifestyle then you have to decide. Its like a friend who smokes or drinks too much. You may want to pull her aside and talk about it. But generally I agree with the crowd that says she already knows it.

Why do you want to say anything? She already knows she's fat and doesn't need you to remind her. If you're really her friend just accept her the way she is.

People know when they're fat. You don't have to tell them.

Give her encouragement and advice more than criticism. Express practical concern and reasons it would be to HER benefit to lose weight.
