My copy of the UK Highway Code says that "Dangerous Driving" can carry any of the following sentences:
(a) up to two years in prison
(b) an unlimited fine
(c) an obigitary driving ban (though it doesn't specify how long for)
So to answer your question, yes you COULD go to prison for it, but until the government makes a few more spaces for you in prison you would probably get away with a suspended sentence! :-)

There are a few possibilties here. Assuming that you are in the UK, there are 2 different statutes, being S2 Road Traffic Act 1988 - Dangerous Driving and S3 RTA 1988 - Careless Driving. In terms of dangerous driving, unless your actions resulted in a fatality or serious injury it is unlikely that you will receive a custodial sentence, however a ban with possibly having to resit your test is a possibility, and a hefty fine. If the charge is careless driving, it is unlikely that you will be prosecuted unless your actions caused an accident or the circumstances were extremely reckless, but in that case then the charge should really be dangerous driving. For careless driving if convicted you could be banned but this unlikely, would more than likely be a fine and a few points.

Depends on what how bad the reckless driving charge is. For instance what circumstances surround it. In some states you can go to jail for it. I plead guilty in such a case so that I would avoid a 30 day jail sentence. I paid a hefty fine, but had it reduced to a traffic charge instead of a misdemeanor. I was in no accident, but I was doing 163mph in a 65mph zone for well over a mile.

In the UK you could lose your licence and if you hurt or killed someone you could be up before the Beak on charges of Causing Death by Reckless Driving which could lead to a prison sentence.

if this results in injury or death to a police officer or a member of his family a custodal sentence is normally guaranteed in addition to this on your arrival at your place of internment the screws spread the rumour that you have commited offences against children and the other prisoners will give you flying lessons off the top floor balcony when the safety net is not in place
