Well.. judgemental friends, lack of self esteem, being jealous, stupid people, gaining weight, being ugly, parents who expect to much of you or parents who dont care about you. alot of things cause depression and suicidal thoughts. it is sad.

My 15 year old daughter suffers too. It's due to low self-esteem, poor grades even though she studies hours and hours each night, being bullied in school, feeling picked on by teachers, her boyfriend cheated on her, her father left her when she was 4 and she's still angry, but mostly, the one thing that has been a continual source of pain in her is the fact that she's being bullied. We've had her to see 3 or 4 counsellors in the past 5 years, and finally this year we found one she likes and enjoys talking to. My daughter is the happiest she's been since 4 years old, she's losing weight, she's got a job, got a new boyfriend, and so far things are looking up for her.

i think that media and the false reality portrayed in movies adds to depreesion. we strive so hard for the extremes that movies and tv shows give us. when we realize that we will never attain this we get discouraged. also, bad experiences can be a very big cause of depression especially when it happens to someone young. it may be steriotypical but younger people cope worse with bad news. hope this helps

Honestly, I think it a lack of "tough love" while they were getting raised. Kids never see their parents anymore, there is a large lack of communication between kids and parents more these days. Parents are more demanding of their children, less family time. I remember growing up it was dinner with my brother and parents every night, yearly family vacations, family game nights at home etc..you just don't see that anymore. I think this leads to destructive thoughts and depression in kids today. Also, look at the divorce rate...I could go on and on...

Your brain chemistry actually changes when you get to adulthood. Part of the reason is that your body is no longer releasing growth hormones. There is also a lot of pressure on young adults to "get it together " as far as school, their life, marriage, leaving home etc. Please get help if you haven't already.

Now days,we have so many news agencies bombarding us with bad news. Each one trying to outdo the other with more sensational bad news, teens get so overloaded with bad news they begin to "believe" there is nothing positive to live for.
