The US airways NON STOP flight rom London to Charolotte NC is scheduled for 8hrs and 50 mins of total flight time. Some of this time is made up of taxxing, so figure somewhere between 8hrs-815min will be your average time in the air.
Naturally the flight FROM london to USA is slightly longer because you are going against the jetstream.

Are you really flying straight from Gatwick to Charlotte? If you are my information might not be of much use. I flew from Heathrow to Chicago and it took about 9 hours. So I imagine that it would take 9-10 hours to get to Charlotte. I hope that helps!
