Most atheist have learned two important lessons.
1. To stand on their own two feet.
2. To ask for help when they need it.
Most Christians live in fear of being accuse of having weakness in the faith so they hide their problems. They then try to deal with their problems through prayer. As we know prayer is ineffective so the problem gets worse. Finally it gets so bad they ask for help but they can't do it with people they go to church with because they'll end up being judged. So they turn to the Internet where everybody is 6' 7" tall, 210 pounds, a black belt and a Ph.D.
It is a sad way of life.

I agree with most of that, only the conversions do go both ways. Most of the time it sounds like a lame story or someone that was rebelling against the parental units and not going to church during their teen years and then 'found god' but I do see them once in a while. The thing they all have in common though when it truly is someone raised without religion that finds religion is they seem to be the least intelligent people or cut and paste fanatics.
I can't wait to go read the other answers now.
I almost forgot, an atheist won't ask for help because they know there is no magical being and no amout of praying by anyone, especially people on the internet you have never met that don't know jack about you, is going to change things. But you already knew that.

Atheists have no one to call out to for help. If things are going poorly for them, they do not believe a Cosmic Force or Supernatural being either caused the suffering or can help to alleviate it.
Christians have a relationship with God, and some of them want a stronger, deeper relationship. It is no different than someone posting in Yahoo Answers " How can I show my girlfriend how special she is to me?" or "How can I make my marriage work better?" It is impossible to seek less of a relationship than none. An atheist doesn't need to look for a more non-existent' relationship because he already has none. I have seen the question from atheists" How can I prove to my friends that God doesn't exist?" Essentially, THAT is a form of asking to one's have faith in the atheist possition stregthened by others.
If an atheist asked, "How can I have a more non-existent relationship with Jesus?", he would be acknowledging a God that he believes doesn't exist.
There are many ppl around who used to be atheists before they became Christians. Upon trying to disprove the Christian faith, many have realized that it is the truth and even authored books on their faith journeys from atheism to Christianity. The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel is just one example. The Dallas Daily News reports, "the most famous atheist in the academic world over the last half-century, Professor Antony Flew of England's University of Reading, now accepts the existence of God" .C.S. Lewis was an atheist before becoming a Christian. So were musicians Rod Stewart & Bob Dylan.

Good point!
I think for one its because we dont believe in imaginary beings therefore we dont have the same emotional, and deep seeded psychological problems that Christians do. Christians seem to have quite a bit more dependency than non-believers.
Atheists, Agnostics, and un-believers have come to the realization that we are without a supreme being and there fore can think for ourselves. Solving our own problems.
Granted of course every once in awhile we need a shoulder to cry on, but jesus christ, its not some imaginary big guy in the sky and the rest of his blind followers. The reason christians turn to christians is because as christians they can all get together pray and feel the presence of the holy spirit together. where 2 or more christians gather together....god seems more real.

I was Praying to god one day, asking for answers. It was then that I had and epiphany (sp? sorry) God revealed unto me that I should be an aetheist!
I am kidding. Love the question though. (better to have a few good questions than a bunch of crappy answers I say!)
To answer it though I think that some people cannot go through life without answers. they need to think that life has meaning. It's very uncomfortable for them to wake up and say. "I might die today and honestly I might rot in the earth" For me it gives meaning to my life. I understand that this minute may be my last. I am gonna enjoy it! I ponder all the time what is the meaning of existence. It makes it a whole lot easier if you have a priest of a prophet or whoever telling you what the meanings are. but last time I checked there is no way of knowing.
Sorry If I rambled here. once again thanks for the thought provoking question.

Every one needs assistance from time to time. An Atheist may talk it out with family or friends to get advice or just vent a little. We know that ultimately problems that can be solved will be solved with time and effort on someones part. Some things cannot happen the way we want them to , like when a loved one is terminally ill. We keep on trying to work toward the best outcome and do whatever helps the situation along the way.

Simple but irrefutable. Nicely done, this use of logic can only be curtailed by blind faith. I believe in everything and nothing all at the same time, it's the eternal worship of paradox, it's where I found the magic and this is the gate that lets me bend time and space, manipulate, it has cost too much of course, it's put a monkey on my back, I have to ride the white horse, to keep the demons quiet and quell my own souls riot, but thats just may make sense of my day, oh the price I pay to live this way. It is a one way street but I'm always going the wrong way on it!

I think you just notice those ones more. It is what you wanna see that you see. Or even the ones that don't talk about it may be the ones you are looking to hear about but don't.
Sometimes life gets to hard and we have to believe there is another force besides ourselves and people. Desperation we may need him to know how much we are going through. So that is how it sounds but at the same time. So we emphasize what he already knows. Would you go through the worst part of your life just to believe that someone is standing the watching you and that's it. Don't you think after such a thing happening it would be easier for someone to just not believe.
You could consider it a one way street and have a valid argument. But again there are people who may have gone from one to the other. But you hear more of one than the other.

Wow. I never did much notice that... But youre 110% correct...or, maybe not....
Im certain that any Atheist that needs assistnace in some area is going to post in a forum that actually might be of some value to their issue. So, while Christians will post in R&S for things such as problems in their marriage, most intelligent people would post under the Marriage forum.... having medical problems, a Christain might ask R&S for prayers, while an Atheist would post under Medicine...
So, maybe its the choice of where we post?

I've seen posts that say "I used to be an atheist, but now I'm a Christian."
Atheism is a belief on it's own so they would say "how can i make my belief stonger?" but they don't because Atheism doesn't have love and therefore cannot get any stronger than it has, which is weak, it can only multiply in numbers.
Christianity is a religion 100% love, love from God, and so it cannot be destroyed or weakend.

In fairness, I have seen a few "Used to be atheist, now I'm a Christian" posts, but mostly the other way around. And I think it's worthy to note that lots of "born-again" stories seems to involve a hitting rock-bottom, desperation element that I've not seen when the conversion goes the other way.
edit: I'm getting pretty damned sick of Christian arrogance.
No, this isn't addressed to all of you, just the ones who proclaim that because we're atheists we have no one to turn to, or listen to us, or no love in our hearts, or joy.
You're wrong and you're obnoxious.
