Are you sure the Pope is not aware? Abuses of priests and clergies have been there from the very start of its inceptions. It is only in this present generation where many have taken up a stand openly against it. The early generations of religious priests are authorities who were so powerful they can even decide to wage war against those who tried to exposed them.
Why do you expect God to do the expose? Why not the victims? God would only judge in the end but never will interfere unless extremely needed but still He will make way for people or nature to do it.

~~~Lucky ,,,My questions to you are,,, How do you KNOW that the Pope was told?,,,,and ,,,,Since god told the pope about the abuse then why did he do nothing until The Public found out,,, and then why did he do the Wrong Thing to correct The Problem. ,,,And why didn't he retract his lying statement that ,,,",,,It's an American Thing." when it was later found to be just as prominent in Europe!!! ~The Pope is an easy target for us atheists.
The quick and straight answer? Because the Pope has no ties to God.
The Bible (which, surprisingly, the Pope claims to believe) says in 1 Timothy 2:5, "For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."
The concept that there exists a modern man in unique contact with God (in a revelatory sense), is not Biblical.
Consider also the fourth chapter of the same book (1 Timothy 4:1-3): "Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth."
The forbidding of marriage is called a "teaching of demons" and it has clearly led to sexual deviancy in the Catholic church.
You are assuming that He didn't. A bigger issue then that a very small handful of priest abused their positions is that the leadership of the church appears to have convered it up. Foreknowledge would have made no different if the people are not going to act on it.
You and I know why. I can't figure out how the religious justify these kinds of things and why they worship a weak or sadistic god
