This means you have a file missing and XP will not install. You will need to restart the XP install, but first try these things in this order:
1. Your CDrom drive is dirty or bad. Solution, first clean the drive
with a cdrom cleaner, then try another CDrom drive.
2. Your CD is dirty or scratched. Solution: Clean the CDrom,
then try another CD or use a CD repair kit, available at most computer stores.
3. Your hard drive is defective or marginal. You can simply try
reformatting your hard drive, and reloading the operating system.
When XP is loading, be sure to "delete" the current partition and reformat the Entire hard drive, not just the existing partition

You will need to go into BIOS before your computer boots up with windows. What you do is, right when ur computer turns on, if you see the splash screen press F1, or F2, or DELETE, depending on your motherboard, one of these three buttons should get you into BIOS. If you dont see the splash screen, then press 1 of those three buttons right when you see anything on your screen. Usually, it would be white words on a black background. Once you get into BIOS, you will need to go and disable boot from all devices EXCEPT your CDROM drive, or DVDROM drive, whichever you have installed in your computer. Be sure to disable EVERYTHING else so that your computer will ONLY boot from your Optical drive. Restart your computer, and your computer will restart using the WINDOWS Installation disk so that you can reinstall your windows. Once your computer is done copying all the necessary installation files to your hard drive, be sure to re-inable all your other boot up devices by following the same process I have given you earlier.

By the way, if you run into another error at 40%, then you will need to get a new installation disk. That one is probably damaged.

Thanks

The Computer is having trouble transferring the file from the CD to the computer.
Clean the CD and try again. Look carefully at the CD and see if it
is scratched. If it is you must somehow come up with a new CD.

either ur win xp cd is flawed.
or one of the files thats get copied to the computer is corrupt. Best bet, re-start install with a different win xp cd if you have one.

good luck

Try installing again. That's all you can do now.
