Some signs could be, insomnia, weight gain / loss, loss of appetite / gaining of appetite, paranoia, extreme sadness, physical pain, headaches, tearful, feeling like everyone is out to get them in one way or another, hard to make friends, hard to keep friends, pushes loved ones away / gets clingy.

Signs can come and go, and you can have bouts of extreme happiness and optimism, which does not last long.

There are so many signs and can go either direction from one person to another. Best course of action is to see a doctor and get properly diagnosed. That's what they are there for.

You should stop eating sugar for 3 weeks and see if you're still depressed.
People who are:
• Feeling tearful, isolated, depressed, and hopeless
• Having low self-esteem
• Feeling "done to" by others
• Having a low tolerance for pain (emotional and physical)
• Feeling emotionally overwhelmed
• Craving sweets
aren't always "depressed"- they can't tolerate sugar and should stop eating it.
