Pass it down to a family member or respectfully retire it. Wrap it in a white cloth and put it in a drawer or something. You will be surprised how the Creator speaks to us. You may find you receive instructions on who to give the old Bible to.

If you do not have any family history with the bible, you can give it away.
There is an old myth concerning bibles. It was believed to be sin to throw it away. "Your supposed to spread the word" by giving it someone who needs it. If the bible has family history, Your supposed to give it to another member of the family. Preferably a child or baby.
Missions take bibles. So does the Salvation army. You can also go on line and search for BIBLE Recycle programs. these are groups who collect bibles and give them to the lesson fortunate and to Missionaries.
You can also save the bible for another project. My friend uses her old bible for scrap booking. She uses the pages of her favorite quotes and uses them as the background. She also uses them for cards and for inspiration around the house.

Just keep it. I still have the one I received as a gift when I was 15. 12 years ago! I wasn't even a Christian, but that book tought me some great things in the years to come after I became a Christian. It's all falling apart now, but it's corner stone in my life.
I have a new one I use, but that old one...I couldn't let it go.

There is nothing to say that it is bad to throw them away. However, a better idea is to give it to someone who doesn't have one.
If you have marked up your old Bible as I have, the person will know passages that you deem important. That could help them.

If it isn't in too bad shape it may be useful for someone else. Check with your church or a local library for a way to donate it. If it is completely worn out, just throw it away. If that seems disrespectful to you, it could be burned, much as we do to dispose of a worn flag.

There's always someone who needs a Bible.... do have any friends who need one? If they don't believe, you could wrap it up and give it to them as a gift. Then let God work in their lives. Maybe they'll open it and have lots of questions for you! God bless!

Keep it as a resource book. I have about 3-4 old sets of scriptures. I go back and look thru them and re-read my markings and notes. It's very helpful when reading or studying a subject.

you can give it to your church. There are places on the net you can donate it to and they give bibles to those who want one or send them overseas (actually the need was too great for them and they ran out from what one website says), or if it's not blessed you can sell it on eBay, or (after you've checked it for any old dates, family pictures or articles) give it to a friend, acquaintance or relative.
