I think you touch on the answer to this question by bringing up the concept of "faith."
Hebrews 11:1 says, "Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."
Modern science is largely empirical, so it falls short of addressing those "things not seen."
Aristotle believed one could logically deduce that there was a "prime mover." That is, because we see that things are currently in motion, there must have been something greater that originally set them in motion. He argued that because this line of reasoning can't continue into infinity, there must be an original, "unmoved" mover that started it all.
Later, Thomas Aquinas (a Catholic theologian) used the same argument but added, "...this we call God." Aristotle didn't go so far as to use the word "God," and it was because he wanted to operate by logical reason alone. Logic demands that things must have a source (i.e., an object cannot be the cause of itself). However, applying the concept of "God" to this (in the Biblical sense) is a step of faith.
Romans 1:19-20 says, "For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse."
It is a natural human response to look at the complexity of creation and attribute it to a power beyond us. Regarding your question, my answer is yes. I would say that God has set things up in such a way that those who truly want to disbelieve are able to. We know that something supernatural had to start things. Evolutionists place their faith in the Big Bang; I place mine in God.

I dont think it is impossible to logically prove God's existence. The natural laws of the universe are so precise that they must have been set by somebody. I'm sure that we cant see the wind but we know and believe it exists because we feel and even see the effects of a strong wind. Similarly, even though we cannot see God with our literal eyes we know of his existence because of the things created...the earth, our body and so much more.
So its safe to say that He did not make it impossible for us to prove his existence. The fact of the matter is that some people refuse to accept the evidence given attributing it to evolution or some other erroneous ideas. The Bible clearly states that he exists and we can know this because of the things created (Isaiah 40:24-26)

Why would a god value "faith"? Why is that superior to logic?
Does god admire the "faith" of the 9/11 highjackers? (You have to admit, they did believe!) Or the faith of a guy who bets the rent money on horses?
No. You don't admire faith but "faith in a very specific definition of god." That isn't admiring faith at all.

It seems to me that God hides Himself from the fools who seek proof without understanding and reveals Himself only to those who are willing to believe with faith.

Well given that there are many religions in the world and most of them claim the same thing about their god(s); I would think that this was a distinct "not likely".

First, there is no PROOF of anything. I mean how can you PROVE that you actually asked that question. There is EVIDENCE, but no PROOF.
So philosophically you can't PROVE anything. God did give us TREMENDOUS amounts of evidence of his exsistence!!!
Faith is there because he wants us to CHOOSE to LOVE HIM, and not to FORCE us to LOVE HIM.
So really if there was enough evidence to PROVE, people would still choose to reject his exsistence. How sad!

So, belief in him, which is arguably the most important knowledge since it determines my ETERNAL FATE... is left to faith, contrary to rational thought.
And you consider this guy holy? Sounds sadistic to me.
